Ulicesses Davis
December 31, 2006

Ulicesses Davis passed peacefully at Triumph Health Care Center on Sunday, December 31st in his 82nd year. He retired from the railroad and later from Metropolitan Hospital, a member of Harris AME Zion Church, loved gardening and landscaping. Ulicesses leaves to celebrate his life and memory, his wife Bertha, son Levern, 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held at his church on Friday, January 5th at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:00 a.m., interment at William Howard Day Cemetery, the family appreciates your support and kindness during their time of loss and sorrow and Hooper Memorial Home Inc., is in charge of final arrangements.

Ethel R. Scales formerly of Harrisburg passed peacefully on Saturday, December 30th in Jacksonville, Florida in her 84th year. A warm and loving individual, Ethel was the family matriarch and will be missed dearly by her loving daughter, Anna, husband Robert Lee of Jacksonville, a sister Sara Johnson of Harrisburg, a brother Robert Lewis Newman of Virginia, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of family and friends. Ethel a long time member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church will be remembered and celebrated on Monday, January 8th at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:00 with interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Spencer Jackson 77, of Franklin Ave., passed Thursday, December 28th peacefully at home with family and friends. He retired from Prudential Insurance Company, a member of Camp Curtin Mitchell Memorial United Methodist Church, enjoyed golfing and most of all spending time with his family. Services will held in his church on Wednesday, January 3rd at 11AM with viewing at 10:00. Spencer leaves his daughter Marsha Parson, five grand and three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his passing. He will be interred next to his wife Iona in East Harrisburg Cemetery. James H. Stevens III passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 20th in his 48th year. James worked mostly in Landscaping, he was a member of 1st Spirit Filled Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed chess, sports and collecting antiques. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Echols, two children, Lashay and James Stevens, two siblings, Forrest and Yolanda Bradley, family and friends. Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday, December 26th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., the family appreciates your support and kindness during their time of loss and sorrow.

Patricia Kent passed peacefully at Blue Ridge Mountain Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 19th in her 72nd year. Patricia retired from nursing at S.E. Community General Hospital in Washington DC, she loved fishing, Jazz and listening to the Blues. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Denyce Johnson, 5 siblings, Eleanor Stanton, Julia Gilliam, Clara Rodgers, Barbara and Charles McKenzie, a close friend, Celestine Page and other family and friends. Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home Inc., Wednesday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m., the family is appreciative of your support and kindness during their time of loss and bereavement.

 
 
Dorothy L. Ellis

Dorothy L. Ellis, passed peacefully Saturday, December 9th at home in her 71st year. Born in Fairchance, Pennsylvania she attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and graduated from Georges Township High School. A US Air Force veteran, she had worked at several installations, including positions at the Gap, Mechanicsburg Naval Depot, Naval Sea System Command to name a few before retiring. Prior to her illness, she worked with the Washington Convention & Tourism and Conference Systems Mangement. Dorothy enjoyed games of chance and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Johnny Ellis, MD, Stacey Ellis, NY, Oliver Ellis and wife Cynthia, Harrisburg, three siblings, Roberta Boutselis, Donald L. Ellis Sr., and Patricia J. Thompson of Harrisburg, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dorothy’s life will be celebrated at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, December 15th at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m., interment on Monday, December 18th at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The Family is appreciative of the support and kindness shown to them during their time of loss and sorrow.

Elvesta Anderson passed peacefully on Thursday, December 7th at Harrisburg Hospital in her 96th year. Elvesta served the needs of others as a domestique, she enjoyed culinary arts, traveling and shopping. Elvesta was a faithful member of the Salvation Army and volunteered her life and service to others for several years. She leaves to celebrate her life and memory her son, Leon Prowell of Las Vegas, her sisters Estelle Selvey of Harrisburg and Christine Banks of Philadelphia, a grandson Sazar Prowell of Oklahoma several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Edward Selvey and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be celebrated at the Salvation Army on Wednesday, December 13th at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m., additional services at Friendship Baptist Church in Warren, Ohio and interment at Pineview Memorial Cemetery in Warren. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and thanks for the love and support in their time of loss and bereavement. In lieu of flowers send donations to the Salvation Army, 2328 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17109.

Sonya D. Waters passed suddenly on Wednesday, December 6th at Harrisburg Hospital in her 34th year. She received her formal education in Benton Harbor, Michigan and enjoyed reading novels and listening to R&B. She was predeceased by her mother, the late Joyce Hayes Waters, yet leaves to mourn her passing her father, Charles and step-mother, Pamela Walters; three children, Erick Sims, Stacey and Shanquise Jacobs, brother Derrick (Pamela) Waters, sister Mary Waters, companion George Harbison and a host of family members and friends. A tribute in her honor will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday, December 12th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., the Waters family appreciates your support and kindness during their time of loss and sorrow.

Edna G. Ervin, of Hamilton Drive, passed suddenly, yet peacefully in Community General Hospital on Tuesday, December 5th in her 85th year. Edna was a tax examiner for the PA Department of Revenue who enjoyed crocheting and the culinary arts. She leaves to celebrate her life and memory three children Shirley Kirkwood, Louise and Jack Ervin Jr., five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as a host of relatives and friends. The celebration of her life will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Monday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10 and interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family of Mrs. Erwin appreciates the enormous outpour of love and support during their time of loss and bereavement.

Eleanor V. Smith passed peacefully on Monday, December 4th at Holy Spirit Hospital in her 81st year. Eleanor was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Myrtle Gooden and she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and volunteering for the food bank. Eleanor leaves to celebrate her life and memory her children, Virginia and Ronald Smith, 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Memorial Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Sunday, December 10th at 2:00 p.m., the family appreciates your support and kindness during their time of loss and sorrow.
