Mary Lou Harris

October 16, 2018

Mary Lou Harris, 90, of Mechanicsburg, peacefully completed her journey on October 16, 2018.

Born on April 27, 1928 in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Lillian and Clyde Jones Sr of Clarksburg, West Virginia. Mary Lou had been a loving wife of 52 years to the late Major Donald L. Harris, also from West Virginia.

Mary Lou graduated from Virginia State University and had been an active member of Camp Curtin Memorial Mitchell United Methodist Church (CCMMUMC), the American Business Women Association (ABWA), Carlisle Y’s Men and Women’s Service Club and many other community social groups.

While Don was in the army, the couple adventured to many states including Maryland, New York, North Carolina, and Texas, just to name a few. When Don was assigned overseas and while the couple were in Germany in 1962, they adopted a son, Ralph E. Harris, Lancaster, and Ralph’s sister, Liliane M. Harris, Mechanicsburg.

After Don’s retirement, the Harris’ moved to Mechanicsburg.  Mary Lou then began employment at the US Army Military History Institute and retired from Federal Service on May 1, 1993. After their retirement, Don and Mary Lou enjoyed themselves traveling on cruises, fine dining and spending time with friends and family.  They both were excellent cooks and they loved inviting their friends over for a meal.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Katherine from Warren, Ohio; and brother, Clyde Jones, Jr., of Washington, Pa.

Mary Lou is celebrated and remembered by her children; Ralph and Liliane; three grandchildren – Jasmine N. Conway of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and Durrell M. Johnson and J’Rey L. Jackson of Harrisburg, Pa.; six great-grandchildren Kahari, Jericho, Kyng, Ryder, Karder, and Khameron, all from Harrisburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

For convenience to the family, all condolences may be sent to the church.
