Ada Patricia (Johnson) Evans, 75, of Harrisburg, passed away on March 1, 2016 in Colonial Park Care Center after a long illness.
Ada, also known as "Tuck," was born on Dec. 20, 1940 in Cope, Orangeburg County, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, Shellie, who she met on a school bus bound for junior high school in South Carolina. Not wanting one of those "big head Evans boys," as her family referred to them, to sit next to her, Ada, not known for her subtlety, put her books in the empty seat next to her and stared out the window. Shellie walked over, picked up her books, sat down and placed them in his lap. They were married a few years later, a union that lasted 57 years.
The couple came to Harrisburg in 1960 for employment.
Ada was a member of Camp Curtain Memorial Mitchell United Methodist Church, where she sang on the Gospel Choir and participated in Girls in the Spirit.
Ada, who retired from Hershey Foods and worked for the former Olivetti-Underwood Typewriter factory, enjoyed cooking, shopping, sewing, traveling and decorating.
Along with her husband Shellie, she is survived by her daughter Sharon Michele Evans Bryan and son Patrick Evans; two sisters Bessie Franklin and Evelyn Harvey; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
