Andrea Lillian Parson Brown was born May 29, 1942, in Harrisburg, PA, to the late Vivian Parson (Jenkins) and Edwin Prigg Parson Sr. She graduated from John Harris High School in 1960 and Morgan State University in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in English. She then moved to Gary, Indiana, where she worked as an English teacher (having the pleasure of teaching two of the Jackson 5 children) and met her late husband, Carl Brown. After returning from graduate school, she moved to Peoria, Indiana. There she worked as a Vocational Counselor for the Urban League, Human Resources Rep for Carson Pirie Scott, and Vice President of Resource Distribution for Heart of Illinois United Way. Andrea made many lasting connections and friendships while she was there and continued to keep in contact with everyone via letters and Facebook once she returned to Harrisburg to be closer to family.
Andrea had a zest for life; she enjoyed shopping, traveling, luxury cruises with her friends, and attending Wine and Jazz festivals with her brother. She was very active prior to her illness and was a member of a variety of fitness groups and activities. She was kind, loving, and a generous soul, and was very close with her nieces and nephews. They will miss her big, tight hugs, funny jokes, and delicious homemade soups.
Andrea was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Prigg Parson, Sr., and Vivian Parson (Nee Jenkins ), and her husband, Carl Brown. She is survived by her brother, Edwin Prigg Parson, Jr, her nephew Edwin Prigg Parson, III, her nieces Corinne Parson and Lauren Parson, great niece, Maya Parson, and great nephews: Avery Holmes, Gavin Parson, Allen Parson, and Deion Parson. She also leaves a host of additional relatives and friends.
Please keep the Brown and Parson family in your prayers.
