Life began for Cora Bell (Balkcom) Tilghman on May 24th, 1953 in Belle-Glade, Florida.  She was born to the union of the late Johnny Balkcom, Sr and Cora Lee McCants.  She was the second child of 6 children.

Cora attended the Harrisburg Public School System.  She was a certified nurse assistant, she worked at Blue Ridge West Nursing Home as well as Spring Creek Rehabilitation Center, she retired from The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania House of Representative where she served as a custodian. 

Cora met Ronnie Tilghman in 1967, they were joined in Holy Matrimony in 1986.

Cora enjoyed laughing and joking, she had a great sense of humor.  She loved playing bingo, taking walks, watching westerns on T. V., sending inspirational text to cheer and encourage people.  She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.  She loved shopping and listening to music.  She was very festive and loved to dress according to the holiday.  She loved spending time with her husband, her children, grandchildren, and her other family members.

In 2010 Cora joined the Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of Superintendent D. R. Gilmore, she excepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.   She sang on the Voices for Christ Choir  also The Mount Calvary Mass Choir, she attended Sunday School, she served as a part of the Cleaning Ministry and she was loyal and stedfast at serving as a member of the Greeter’s Ministry, she loved it.  She showed loved to everyone.

On Monday March 7th, 2023, Sister Cora 69, transitioned from this life to her permanent home in heaven to be with the Lord.

In addition to her father, and her maternal grandmother:  Nicey McClain, Cora was also preceded in death by her 2 brothers;  Junior L. Balkcom, & John Balkcom, Jr.,

Cora’s life and legacy will be cherished by her loving & devoted husband Ronnie Tilghman, Sr of Harrisburg, PA, 4 daughters:  Rhonda Balkcom, Sebrina T. T. Quailes, Tamica Quailes, and Linda Thomas who was raised as Cora’s daughter all of Harrisburg, PA and  3 sons:  Nathaniel L. Green, Jr, of North Carolina, Herbert Green & Ronnie L. Tilghman, Jr both of Harrisburg, PA , 16 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren. Cora’s mother:  Mrs. Coralee McCants & stepfather (Mr. William McCants).  Her brother; Johnnie Will (Ilsia) Balkcom, of Kissimmee, Fl., Sisters: Vern Kilpatrick of Ocala, Fl.,  Annette Balkcom of Harrisburg, PA, Uncles:  Willie Mclain & Timothy McClain both of Maryland, Cora’s Mother-n-law, Dalayma Tilghman, Brothers in laws:  William (Francis) Tilghman & Ervin Tilghman both of Herclock, MD.  Her cousin:  Markel Davis of Belle, Fl. and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends, especially a childhood friend:  Celeste Thomas & Mt. Calvary Church Family.   Lovingly Submitted By Her Family
