Donald R. Brasfield

Donald R. Brasfield, 63 formerly of New Kensington, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Community General Hospital. Donald was the son of the late Dr. Franklin C. Brasfield and Marie (Casson) Brasfield, born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on November 6, 1943. Donald was a 1961 graduate of Ken Hi, a Vietnam Veteran serving his country in the U.S. Navy, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He also graduated from Howard University, Crenshaw Christian Center Ministry Technical Theological Institute under the direction of Pastor Fredrick K. Price of California. He was a supervisor at The Boy's Club in Los Angeles, California, a swimming instructor for Howard University and a member of Canaan 1st Baptist Church in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Donald leaves to celebrate his life and memory his wife Darla Smith Brasfield of New Kensington, his children; Donald Richard Brasfield Jr. of Maryland, Tommie Miller of Maryland, Salise and Tymonica Brasfield of New Kensington, step-children, Jazman Smith and Tanika Burke of New Kensington, two sisters, Geraldine A. Stroud of Natrona Height, Pennsylvania and Yvon Watt of Harrisburg, a brother Ronald Brasfield of Woodland, California, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Delight Wilson, a brother Franklin Brasfield Jr., children Marie Martinz Brasfield and Carolina Martinz Brasfield. Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc., Tuesday, February 20th at 1:00 p.m., with viewing from 11:00 a.m. until time of service, internment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family appreciates the love and kindness shown to them during their time of sadness and bereavement.
