Dorothy "Dot" Bacon, born March 6, 1940, entered eternal life on Monday, July 28, 2025. Dot reunited with her parents, Lonnie Johnson Sr., Lena M. Newsome, step-father Charles C. Newsome, and brother Lonnie Johnson Jr. Dot was the oldest of 7 children and was raised in Waltourville, GA.
Dot was a strong, resilient woman and exuded comfort. She rarely complained and always made a way. You can count on Dot to move mountains. She was a great listener, friend, and caregiver.
Dot worked hard to raise her grandchildren; she worked at the local Sheraton Hotel with her sister, Arlinda Williams, for many years. For fun, Dot spent time with her numerous grandchildren, played bingo, played the lottery, watched Judge Judy, enjoyed fishing, and occasionally traveled to Atlantic City when feeling really lucky. Dot had the best cooking in the world and loved making fried fish, her favorite.
Dot leaves to cherish precious memories: a daughter, Wilhelmina Dickey, three sons, Samuel Lee Bacon, Nathaniel Johnson, and Larry Darnell Johnson, her sisters, Sadie Hostley, Barbara Folks, Arlinda Williams, and Cornelia Moon, her brothers Sandford and Donnie Ray Newsome, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
“As the clock ticks, I know you are with me”.
____________
To My Grandmother
I’ll never forget your loving ways and the sacrifices you made.
I miss the smell and taste of your soups and watching you gut fish.
I miss waiting for you to come home from bingo, praying you won.
Grandma, this hurts, but I understand. I’m glad I got to feed you and hold your hand in your
last days as you did mine when I was young.
You were a bright light to many; we carry you in our hearts to live out your legacy.
Your Loving Grandchildren
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
