Dovie Franquita Mason

Dovie F. Mason was born on November 17, 1952, in Altoona, PA, to parents, the late Ballard J. Anthony and the late Rev. Betha M. Smith-Anthony. She transitioned peacefully on August 24, 2025, in Harrisburg, PA. Her passing was marked by the presence of those who cherished her most, a reflection of the deep bonds of love and care she nurtured throughout her life.

Dovie lived a life full of love, faith, and dedication to her family and community. Born and raised in Altoona, she is a graduate of Altoona High School. In addition to obtaining her Certified Nursing Assistance Certification, she later moved to Harrisburg, PA and attended Kaplan where she graduated with a medical assistance degree. She served as a CNA at various nursing homes and hospitals in the area for over a decade. She made a career change in the early 90’s and went to work for The Dauphin County District Judge Pianka’s office, followed by The Department of Education retiring officially in 2008. Her desire to spread the Lord’s word and love was a key part of her life, in 2009 she established “Hug Spa Ministry” to help expand her reach to the people in her community.

To know Dovie is to know that family mattered most to her; she married her forever love, William, on June 30th, 1973, in Altoona, PA. Together, they later moved their young family to Harrisburg, PA, where they welcomed the birth of two more children. As her children grew older and became parents themselves, Dovie’s devotion transitioned to nurturing the young hearts and minds of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ballard J. Anthony and Rev. Betha M. Smith-Anthony, son Tiyo I. Anthony, sister Vanessa M Lynch, brothers Charles and Terry Anthony. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years William E. Mason, daughters Marquita L Mason, Christina D Mason, Dawn T Mason and Jennifer Anthony-Bellemy (Devon).Her grandchildren William L Mason, LaQuiesha O Mason, Tiarra C Mason Bates, Lapri R Mason, Lamont T Williams, Marquan T Mason, Latonya S Williams. Great grandchildren Sa’Niya N Mason, Quamir L Mason, Si’Yanah N Mason-Woolfork, Aariyah A Mason, Skylar N Woolfork, Kao D Burney, Ay’son H Thompson, Kinzley M Burney, Aziel H Williams. Sisters, Eunice J Thomas (Apple Valley, CA), Ida M Mobley, Yvette S Quijano, Vanteria L Anthony all of Harrisburg, PA. Sister in Law Donza M Mason of Harrisburg.

A service to honor Dovies’s life will be held at Lingo Memorial Church of God in Christ on September 5, 2025, viewing 10am-11am, service starts at 11am.
