Edith Cornelius

Edith L. Simpkins Cornelius was born May 8, 1970 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the parents of the late Donald Mitchell and the late Edith Lambert.

On Wednesday, December 13, 2017 she was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Edith graduated in 1989 from J. P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She also studied at Harrisburg Area Community College.

Edith was united in marriage to her husband Timothy Cornelius, Sr. and from this union they were blessed with five children, Timothy, Jr., Tevin, Tyrell, Tyla, and Ty’Niah Cornelius. Family time was very important to her. She hosted many cookouts every Memorial Day to gather the family together. Edith was employed with Mikaylas Place until she became ill with breast cancer.

She was a faithful member at Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She enjoyed participating with Bible Study, the Youth Mass Choir, Weekly Prayers, Sunday School, Purity Class, Vacation Bible School and Revivals. Edith was one of the speakers for the Women’s Day Celebration at Mount Calvary in July 2017. Her desire was to have her children accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. She was grateful and loved the church family but most of all she loved the Lord.

Edith was appreciative for the love and support she received from the Cornelius and King families and friends. She enjoyed shopping and talking with her mother-in-law Ellaree Frazier on the front porch about many family memories. She had unbreakable faith, unconditional Mother’s Love for her children and helped those in need. She told everyone don’t worry about me I will be alright because she knew our God is awesome. Edith sang in her hospital bed while fighting breast cancer “Learning to Lean on Jesus”. Every chance she got she gave God praise. Edith L. Simpkins Cornelius would say “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”. (2 Timothy 4:7)

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish precious memories of shared life journeys, her husband, Timothy Cornelius, Sr.; three sons, Timothy, Jr., Tevin, Tyrell Cornelius; two daughters, Tyla and Ty’Niah Cornelius; three grandsons, Jaidyn Folks, Jayden and Tre’Velle Cornelius; sister, Ruth King; two brothers,  James Simpkins and Wendell King; mother-in-law, Ellaree Frazier, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; two sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Cornelius (Companion Mark Raye) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Cynthia Fuller (Charles) of Parkville, Maryland; five brother-in-laws, James C. Cornelius (Regene), Willie Cornelius (Ronda), Franklin Cornelius (Wylean), Christoper Cornelius, all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Floyd Cornelius (Fiance Tanya Harris) of Jacksonville, Florida and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
