Hazel Effie Coley Flourence

Hazel Effie Coley Flourence, 92 years young, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, November 18, 2022 at home and surrounded by her family.  In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Hurmond Flourence, and her brothers; Willie, Lawrence and Joe Holland, as well as her sister Ella Howerton. Effie, was affectionately known as Hazel, she was born to the late Carrie and Willie Holland on January 15, 1930 in Danville, Virginia.

After Hazel completed her education, she was married to the late Joe Nathan Coley and they were blessed with one son, Jerome Coley.  After some time, she later joined into holy matrimony with CPL Hurmond Robert Flourence on September 16, 1960, they were also blessed with a son, Bryant Flourence.

Hazel worked at a furniture factory and at a tobacco plant while living in Virginia. The family relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1968. Hazel took on many jobs including working for Olivetti, Berg Electronics, TRW, Hershey Chocolate Factory, Harrisburg Hospital, and the Middletown Nursing Home, in addition to being a fulltime mother and homemaker. Hazel retired at the young age of 85, she enjoyed staying busy, working and watching wrestling.

Hazel leaves to celebrate her life and memory, her devoted sons; Jerome (Mary) Coley and Bryant Flourence, six grandchildren; Jerome Coley Jr., Jillian Coley, Bryant Flourence Jr., Robert and Nathaniel Flourence, and Latisha O’Neal, ten great-grandchildren, one sister Cordelia Hughes, one sister-in-law Donna Holland and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Masks are necessary and required during services.
