Elder John W. "Bishop" Easton

Elder John W. "Bishop" Easton was born on June 30, 1920 in Lousia County, Virginia to the late Reed and Elizabeth Sims Easton. He was the youngest of eight siblings. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 1, 2006 from the home which he shared with his devoted wife of sixty-one years, Mary Britton Easton. Bishop Easton was baptized in Jesus' name by the late Bishop H.C. Brooks at the Way of the Cross Church in Washington, D.C. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost in January 1939. He was the founder and pastor emeritus of the Open Door Church of Christ located at 1410 Marion Street in Harrisburg. Bishop continued walking with the Lord until God called him home. Bishop John Easton was predeceased by his children William, Cecil, Larry (Joe Rock) and Juanita Vaughn. He leaves to cherish his life, his devoted wife, Mary Britton Easton; his children, John (Jerry), Mary (Evonne) Powell, Elaine Easton, Lynnette Brooks, Melvin Easton, Joyce Jenkins, Arleen Bonheur, all of Harrisburg; Isaiah Easton of Georgia; three sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Easton of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Bishop's life will be celebrated in the New Day Way of the Cross Church on Friday December 8th at 11AM with viewing at 10.
