Ella L. Gamble

July 13, 1944 – April 7, 2026

On April 7, 2026, heaven welcomed home a faithful servant, Ella L. Gamble. Born on July 13, 1944, to the late William Coney and Osceola Banks. Ella lived a life rooted in faith, love, and unwavering devotion to God and family.

She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings: Joseph D. Murphy, Ruth Murphy, Evelyn D. Proctor, Ralph Coney, Della Taylor, and Vincent Coney—each of whom she held dearly in her heart.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her devoted husband, Harry Gamble; her beloved children, Augusta Jones and Gardner Walker; her stepdaughter, Tanya Walker; her brother, William Coney; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who were blessed to feel her warmth, her guidance, and her steady, comforting presence.

Ella was a proud graduate of John Harris High School and the Gary Whetstone School of Biblical Studies. She retired from AT&T, but her true calling was far greater—serving the Lord and uplifting those around her.

Mother Ella Gamble served the Lord at several local churches. She was a member of Gospel Tabernacle, pastored by the late Bishop Paul Veney, True Worshippers Ministries, pastored by Pastor Melvin Thompson, Jr., and The Rock Church, pastored by Supt. Joshua Robertson. She also served in prison ministry with The Society of Women.

As a faithful and devoted member of The Family of God COGIC, she was lovingly known as “Church Mother.” That title was not just spoken—it was felt. She nurtured, she prayed, she encouraged, and she stood as a pillar of strength for so many.

Her faith was not something she spoke about lightly—it was something she lived. You could hear it in her voice when she sang, feel it in the room when she worshipped, and see it in the way she loved people without condition. She didn’t just attend church—she carried the church in her spirit.

Ella often gave thanks to the Lord for placing her in a church family filled with love, led by a pastor who put others before himself and supported by a strong woman of God. She recognized goodness when she saw it, and she honored it with gratitude.

At home, her love came alive in the most beautiful ways. The kitchen was her ministry, especially during the holidays. She would begin preparing the day before, moving with purpose, care, and quiet joy. By the time the meal was ready, the house would be filled with the kind of aroma that wrapped around you like a warm embrace. Those meals weren’t just food—they were memories in the making, moments that lingered long after the plates were cleared.

To know Ella was to experience kindness, wisdom, patience, and a love that asked for nothing in return. She had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for—like you mattered, no matter what.

Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. Her voice, her prayers, her prophetic words, her presence—will be deeply missed. And yet, even in our sorrow, there is peace in knowing she has gone home… home to the Lord and Savior she loved so deeply.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

Her love remains. Her spirit endures. And her memory will live on—in every song, every prayer, every family gathering, and every heart she touched.
