Emily L. Pitts, 85 was born May 16,1938 in Stokes County North Carolina to the late Welvin V. George and Mary Ellen Mills. Emily's sunset came on October 26, 2023, at UPMC, Harrisburg PA.
Deaconess Emily attended Jones High School in Mt. Airy North Carolina. When she relocated to Harrisburg, she attended the Harrisburg School System.
Emily was Blessed with her late and beautiful daughter Denise Renee George. In 1981 she was also Blessed with her late loving husband, James L. Pitts.
She always loved babysitting so many children at her home on Scenery Drive. Her passion was watching her grandchildren (her angels); Raven, Shadoe, Cierra, Skai, Sarai, and Shonn. She just loved all of her family so affectionately.
In her earlier years, she loved playing basketball and loved dancing. She loved to dress and she sure loved her hats.
She retired, December 28, 1991 from Hershey Entertainment Convention Center. She was an Eastern Stars Member, Chapter # One. She held several roles over her many years in the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was a Trustee for the sick and shut in report. She served as Chair for Deaconess Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Ministry, Chair for Pastor's Aid, Co-chair for Senior Usher Board, Directed Praise dancers, Chair for Clothing Bank Ministry, helper with Food Ministry, special event worker for the former first Lady.
Preceded in death by her loving husband James L. Pitts, her daughter Denise Renee George. Her five sisters: Virginia Hughes, Overa Clark, Louise Martin, Sylvania Penn, and Carey "Earline" George. Three brothers, James, Ralph and Thomas George, and grandson George A. Carroll-Simmons (Shadoe).
Emily leaves to cherish her memory, Raven Sykes-Wiest (Zack), granddaughter/daughter; Larry Pitts (Rochelle), son; Clayton Wilson, special son; Gloria Joe Scott, daughter; Christie Muth, god daughter; all of Harrisburg PA. Cora George, sister of Philadelphia PA; Grandchildren Trina Khalfani-Pitts of Harrisburg, Tera Stern (Jermaine) of Maryland. Great Grandchildren: Cierra Woods, Skai Wiest, Sarai Wiest, Shonn Turner, Akilah Khalfani, Hadiyah Khalfani, Imani West, Takiyah West, Aminah West. Her special adopted daughters: Keona Carter, Telishia Pritchett, Jen Shay, Mindy Palmer. All of her nieces and nephews near and far held a special place in her heart.
