Greta J. Ewell transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, surrounded by her family and friends.
Greta was born in Manassas, VA, to the late William S. and Sarah E. Ewell and preceded in death by her brothers, Carroll B. Ewell of Philadelphia, PA, and William E. Ewell of Harrisburg, PA, and sister, Dorothy Ewell Frazier of Washington, DC.
Known as "Spike" by her classmates, Greta graduated from Harrisburg High School, where she participated in basketball, volleyball, and track. She also was an avid bowler, holding the women's high score for numerous years.
Greta retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Attorney General's Office after 38 years and served as the President of PSECU Union #90 for over 20 years. After retiring, she could not keep still and started working for Pinnacle Health and retired again after twelve years of service at the age of 77.
Greta was also known for her quick wit and million-dollar smile, everyone who met her loved her. Although she only had one child, she was a “mom” to fifty-eleven others.
Greta leaves behind her daughter, Deirdre F. Ewell, and only grandchild, Christopher J. Ewell, both of Harrisburg, PA. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, and many friends who will miss her dearly.
