James Thomas Jones Jr., affectionately known as “Jim” or “Jimmy”, entered eternal life on Saturday, February 10, 2024. He was born on March 16, 1955 in Wellsboro, PA. Jim was the son of the late James and Marietta (Randall) Jones. Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth, Gerard, Gerald, and Lyle.
Throughout his life, Jim was an avid motorcyclist and he spent some of his happiest thrill-seeking times with his motorcycle group, riding all over the east coast. In addition to motorcycles, Jim enjoyed golfing, the Pittsburgh, Steelers, hunting, camping, political advocacy, and a few beers with friends and family, and traveling with his wife to their home in St. Augustine, FL. Jim had many hobbies to keep him active, but his favorite pass-time was always time spent with his family, especially when it came to playing with his grandsons.
Professionally, Jim began his career on May 3, 1976 after he was accepted into an apprenticeship with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542. After completing his apprenticeship in 1980, Jim went on to excel in his field as a heavy equipment operator, later becoming a business agent for Local 542, International Union of Operating Engineers. In the year 2000, Jim was elected Treasurer of his chapter and served his post with distinction until his retirement on February 1, 2023. James was also appointed a Member of the State Unemployment Compensation Advisory Council by Governor Tom Wolf in May of 2022.
On August 31, 1996, he married his devoted wife of 27 years, Kelly L. Jones. This union was blessed with three children, Teerah, Alana, and James. His friends and family will remember Jim’s stoic, gentle giant nature. A man of few words, his voice was mighty and his words were always meaningful, genuine, and revered.
As Jim moves to his heavenly home, he leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Kelly; two daughters, Teerah Goodrum of Washington, DC, Alana Jones of Harrisburg; his son, James T. Jones III of Harrisburg; two brothers, Linford (Andrea) Jones of Pittsburgh, Michael (Joan) Jones of Ontario, CA and sister in-law Denise (Isiah) Foskey of Accokeek MD, brother in-law Lester Wigington of Harrisburg two grandsons, Malcolm Miller, Aydin Ballard; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, several aunts, other relatives and friends. He will be truly missed by ALL!
