James H Parker

Deacon James Horace Parker, 91, of Harrisburg, PA, entered eternal rest on May 26, 2026. Born August 16, 1934, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Horace and Rebecca Parker.

A graduate of Cheyney University and Pennsylvania State University, James devoted more than 30 years of service to the Harrisburg School District as a teacher, coach, and principal. He was a faithful Deacon and choir member of St. Paul's Missionary Baptist Church, a lifetime member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 33 years, Alice Parker; son, Michael Parker (Patricia); daughter, Michele Howard (Christopher); step-children Jigger P. Mercado (Melissa) and Christine P. Mercado; grandchildren, stepchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. Paul's Missionary Baptist Church beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. www.hooperfuneral.com.
