James P.L. Williams Sr., son of the late Reverend George and Ruth (Key) Williams, was born November 1, 1943, in Miller County, Georgia. He was one of ten children. On the glorious evening of May 20, 2025, he peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the Capital Rehabilitation Center in Harrisburg, PA., while surrounded by his loving family.
James married the late Lillie B. Graddy on February 15, 1964, and from this union, their son, Preston Lee Williams, was born in 1966. He moved to Harrisburg in the late 1960s, where he remained until his passing. With little formal education, James acquired many skills that were largely self-taught, which led to a successful career in manufacturing. He was a long-time employee with Jackson Manufacturing, retiring with over 30 years of service with the company.
Receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, James’s heart was fixed on his heavenly Father. He was a longtime member of the Anointed Bible Teaching Church of God, led by Pastor Cleveland Martin, and served on the Deacon Board.
James’ favorite pastimes were listening to gospel music, which in the early ’60s, he formed a gospel group called "ROYAL" with his late wife Lillie and brother Nathaniel, watching western movies, travelling, and landscaping in his free time. He had a big personality, a hearty laugh, and was easily recognized in Harrisburg, but was probably most known for his impeccable attire. "Fly-Super," "Suit James," and "Press" were among his nicknames bestowed upon him. He went on to serve as the fashion coordinator with the Manigault Specials until he was no longer able due to his declining health.
James was preceded in death not only by his parents, but also by his sisters Alice Gammage, Betty Crankfield, Katie McClendon, and Ginny (infant); his brothers, W.D. Williams, George L. Williams Jr., and Abram Williams (infant). His light will continue to shine through his sister Georgia Covington of Harrisburg, PA.; brother Nathaniel Williams (Dolly) of Calvary, GA.; sons Preston L. Williams (Reneita) in Illinois and James Williams Jr. of Tampa, Florida; grandson Preston L. Williams Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
