Jeffrey M. Knight

Jeffrey Miller Knight was born October 25, 1946, in Harrisburg, PA, to Stanley Roy Knight and Pearl Agnes Miller Knight and passed away at age 79 on February 18, 2026, in Marysville, PA.

Jeff is survived by his son Jason Knight and grandsons Alex and August in Culver City, CA, his daughter Eliza Knight and grandson Ali in Seaside, OR, and his daughter Rose Coulter-Knight in Culver City, CA.

He is also survived by his sister Sherree Knight, with whom he resided in Marysville, PA, his nephews Jason Cutman (Amy) and Jeremy Cutman (Nicole), great nieces and nephews Lillian, Molly, Emily, Zander, Zachary, and Lexi, and many cousins in numerous states.

Jeff grew up in Harrisburg and Swatara Township and was in the first graduating class from the newly opened Central Dauphin East High School in 1964.

He played the piano and clarinet and had a beautiful singing voice. His senior year he was selected for All State Chorus and was considered one of the top 3 high school tenors in PA.

The summer between high school graduation and college, Jeff rode his bicycle from Harrisburg, PA, to Union, SC, where his grandmother lived. An article about his trek was published in the Union Daily Times.

He then went on to major in music at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. He completed 3 years of studies before returning to Harrisburg.

In 1968, Jeff ran the George McCarthy campaign in Harrisburg and then went on to work for WITF in Hershey for a short period of time. During that time he was the principal participant in a documentary titled “So Where Are you God?” He also went to Florida to help cover the launch of Apollo 11, the 1st lunar landing.

In 1970, he moved to Massachusetts to live in the Brotherhood of the Spirit, later known as the Renaissance Community. There, in 1972, he met Judy Jones and her son Jason, and in 1975 they welcomed their daughter Eliza.

Jeff, Judy, Jason, and Eliza moved back to the Harrisburg area in 1976. Jeff and Judy married in 1978.

During that time, he worked for his dad off and on in Stan’s self-owned carpentry/installation business.

Towards the end of 1980, Jeff moved to Venice Beach, CA, and his family joined him early the next year. In CA, Jeff established his own business, Jeff Knight Carpentry. Over the next 34 years he did remodeling and beautiful custom cabinetry work for many people including Dan Rowan, Dick Martin, and Sally Field.

He continued his love of music by singing in several Methodist and Presbyterian churches and the South Bay Master Chorale, and was the founding member of the a cappella group, Westside Singers.

In 1995, Jeff welcomed his 2nd daughter Rose with then companion Melva Coulter.

In Jeff’s pursuit of spirituality, he found the Organic Garden Sangha, a community practicing mindfulness in the tradition of Tich Nhat Hanh. He met with them Saturdays in person while living in CA and continued engaging with them online until his passing when he returned to PA.

Jeff semi-retired in 2014 and returned to PA and lived with his sister Sherree when not traveling between coasts and seeing much of the country.

While here, he cooked in the soup kitchen for Gather the Spirit for Justice in Harrisburg for several years, attended Tuesday evening meditation at the Unitarian church, and loved Thursday night poetry readings at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center. He was a skilled and very expressive writer.

He especially enjoyed being out in nature hiking, biking, and kayaking, and enjoyed his daily walks around Marysville. He went on many kayaking adventures with his nephew Jeremy and Jeremy's friends. They all referred to him fondly as Uncle Jeff.

Jeff was one of a kind and will truly be missed by his family and many friends across the country.
