Jennie Daniels

Jennie Marie Daniels, 69, of Harrisburg, transitioned into eternity on January 7, 2018 surrounded by family. Jennie was born on July 5, 1948 in Saratoga Springs, NY. She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Charlotte Ann and her father, Robert M. Sims.

Left to cherish her memory are her soulmate and loving husband of 53 years, Charles M. Daniels, Sr.; a daughter, April M. Davenport (Todd) of Harrisburg; two sons, Charles M. Daniels, Jr (Lynda) of Fayetteville, NC and Craig L. Daniels of Lykens; 14 grandchildren, from April - Simeon, Aliya, Rekiya; from Charles, Jr - Charles III, Chelsea, Chad, Charity; from Craig – John, Francisco, Diamonda, Devan, Ayesha, Zion, Isaiah; six great grandchildren, Xavier, Dominic, Cameron, Alexavier, Thaleia and Joziah; her mother, Mamie E. Sims; four sisters, Barbara J. Forde (Gary), Edwina E. Gray (Roscoe), Sharon L. Simmons, Deena R. Oliver (Orlando); a sister-in-law Martha Parker (George), a host of nieces, nephews and “special family”, Stacey Rijo (Wilkin), Martha Rochelle (Joe, deceased), Jonanna Bryant (Deland), Jinada Rochelle and Melissa Rowland.

Jennie was a woman of God, a wife of noble character worth far more than rubies as described in Proverbs 31. Her love for the Lord was exemplified in her life by how she loved, served, encouraged, mentored, and, yes, even corrected others.

Jennie was a faithful member of Zion Assembly of Harrisburg for several years. She served with honor and distinction in many areas of ministry to include preparing and serving Holy Communion on First Sunday, leading the Seniors Community group and Hospitality during community meals. She was a first responder for any needs of the people of her small group. Jennie was a dear friend to 1st Lady Renee and many others in the church.

She led a full life in which she pursued her dreams and interests. Jennie was a very creative and artistic woman. Whether creating a gourmet meal for her beloved husband, Charles, family and friends or creating fused gems, paintings, drawings or pottery – Jennie poured herself out unselfishly. She was a gifted singer and pianist.

Jennie was also a fervent worker. Early in her career, she was a freelance journalist for The Saratogian where she covered music legends Duke Ellington, the Jackson 5 and many others. The local radio stations of Lebanon, PA sought her for commercial recordings. Jennie had the voice that spoke through song, pen and spoken words.

Jennie’s voice and work ethic took her to Hershey where she retired from the Hershey Company. Not one to sit, she enrolled at the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) to pursue her love of creative writing and photography. Her commitment to academic achievement resulted in consistently making the Dean’s list. She was invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa National Honors Society, as well.

Jennie Daniels will be sorely missed by her family, church community, classmates, coworkers and friends, but we find comfort 2 Cor. 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with Lord.”
