John J. Easton

John Jerry Easton, affectionately called Jerry by family, was born in Washington, District of Columbia, on February 28, 1946, to the late Bishop John W. and Mother Mary A. (Britton) Easton. He was the firstborn of 12 brothers and sisters from that union. He attended public schools in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he played football and graduated from William Penn High School in June 1964. He married the late Shirley Inez Jackson of Washington, District of Columbia, in August of 1968. From this union came one daughter, Mary Alicia. On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, he peacefully entered eternal rest, surrounded by his family.

Jerry enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also attended all the bowl games of the Penn State Nittany Lions during his nephew Andre Powell's college career. In addition to sports, Jerry loved watching old westerns and kung fu movies, recording videos, taking pictures, traveling, eating good food, spending time with his family, and browsing through any Wal-Mart.

John's Apostolic walk began under the leadership of his father at Open Door Way of the Cross Church of Christ, Inc. He was baptized in Jesus' name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. He served as a Deacon and choir member and recorded every service while a member. He later attended Kingdom Embassy. In June of 2013, he became a member of From the Heart Ministries in Harrisburg. John was a hard worker, having been employed by Harley-Davidson, Inc., where he retired after 30-plus years of dedicated service. Even after retirement, he would return to assist with events.

John is preceded in death by his granddaughters, Ashleigh Curtis and Lynette Lane; his parents; and siblings, Larry, William, and Cecil Easton, and Juanita Vaughan.

John leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Mary Alicia Curtis (Mark) of Waldorf, Maryland; grandchildren Tamra Page and John Easton (Alycia) of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Purcelle Lane II and Ayanna Curtis of Waldorf, Maryland, Mark Curtis Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, and Quierra Curtis of New Braunfels, Texas; great-grandchildren Nahsaan, HeavenLee, Kamari, Baron, Isaiah, Kehlani, Alexander, Amari, and a baby boy due in October; sisters Mary E. Powell (Fred), Elaine Easton, Lynette Brooks, Joyce Jenkins (Aree Ben Zion, formerly known as Charles Jenkins), Arleen Bonheur; and brothers Melvin Easton Sr., all of Harrisburg, and Isaiah Easton Sr. (Maria) of Stockbridge, Georgia.

He is also survived by one aunt, Patricia English (Aunt Shirley), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.

Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
