Kay Smith, 56, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Kay was born August 9, 1969, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Edward Smith and Victoria Owens-Smith. She was the youngest of eight children, growing up in a close-knit family where love and support were always present.
She received her formal education in the Harrisburg School District and was a proud graduate of Harrisburg High School (John Harris). Kay later pursued a career as a bus driver, working for Boyo Transportation, Rohrer Bus Company, and the Central Dauphin School District in Harrisburg, PA. Her work was more than just a job-it was a passion. Kay truly loved the children she transported each day and took great pride in caring for their safety and well-being.
Kay was known for her loving heart, kind spirit, and generous nature. With her quiet and unassuming demeanor, she touched the lives of many through simple acts of kindness and compassion. Kay did not seek attention, but her presence spoke volumes. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and show care to those around her. Though quiet in spirit, the love Kay gave spoke loudly in the lives she touched. She was truly a giver and a rare soul whose tender-heartedness left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In her leisure time, Kay enjoyed watching classic television shows. Her favorite was Murder, She Wrote, but she also enjoyed Matlock, Perry Mason, Walker Texas Ranger, Hawaii Five-O, Motor Week and Miami Vice just to name a few. For Kay, the news was not complete unless she heard it from David Muir.
Kay joined Bethany A.M.E. Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Dwayne Moore, where she became a part of a loving church family. Through her quiet and faithful spirit, she embraced the fellowship and support of the church community. She loved her church family and valued the fellowship she found there. Her faith and gentle spirit were reflected in the warmth she showed to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Smith and Victoria Owens-Smith; her son, Edward Smith; three brothers, Edward Smith, Lorenzo Smith, and Ronald Smith; her sister, Rita Chase; and her beloved nephews and niece, Dennis Chism, Layton Potter, Devyn Smith, Kevin Martin and Shanna Smith, all of Harrisburg, PA.
Kay leaves to cherish her memories - her loving family - brother Tyrone Smith (Carmen) of Harrisburg, PA; sisters Kim Smith and Debbie Smith, both of Harrisburg, PA; her dear son/nephew Kyle J. Smith and daughter/niece Brianna A. Smith of Harrisburg, PA; her niece Muffin; uncle Leonard (Mary) Smith of Enhaut, PA, her aunt Paula Smith-Mills of Harrisburg, PA, her God Mother Minnie Reed Brown, her best friend Ange; and her special neighbors who called her family Vi & Floyd; special brother-in-law Clarence Kent; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Kay's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
