Laura P. Jackson

Laura Jackson, 96, passed away on August 11, 2025, in Harrisburg, Pa, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice residence.

Laura Jackson was born in the Spring of 1929 on May 16th in Harrisburg, PA, to parents LeRoy L. Johnson and Fannie Johnson.

Laura enjoyed growing up with her older brother James aka Buzz, older sister Estoria and her younger sister Grace Mary. Unfortunately, because of the influenza pandemic (also known as the Spanish flu), their younger sister Grace Mary would not live to see her first birthday. As a result, Laura and her remaining siblings shared their lives by sticking together and having a strong work ethic, which trickled down to many generations.

Laura and her siblings were raised in the Episcopal Church and believed in the Episcopal faith and the promises of God.

Laura loved spending time with her Grannies! When she retired, she fell in love with knitting and crocheting! She enjoyed making different types of crocheting projects for all her family members to cherish from generation to generation.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy Johnson and Fannie Johnson, brother James, sisters Grace Johnson and Estoria Black, her children, Patricia " Tish" Winters, daughter, and her son, Ralph " Butch" L. Payne, Jr., and great-grandson Miles Johnson. 

Laura is survived by her children; Yvonne Matthews, Leroy Johnson II, Frances Lawson and James Crummel, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends, in addition to a very dear friend Patricia Winters.

The service for Ms. Laura Jackson will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Walter Hooper Memorial Chapel.

Visitation: Wednesday, at 10:00 AM at Walter Hooper Memorial Chapel.

Burial: William Howard Day Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA.
