With deep love and gratitude to God, we celebrate the life of Mary Lee Byas, who peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born in Meridian, Mississippi, Mary was the first of six children. From an early age, she embodied a nurturing spirit that would define her life as a loving mother, devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, cherished aunt, and beloved mother-in-law. Her life reflected a beautiful devotion to family, faith, and heritage.
Mary had a lifelong passion for music and was a gifted musician who shared her talents through singing and playing the piano in church. Her joyful spirit and love for worship filled both her home and her church with music that lifted hearts and brought people together.
Mary also valued education and personal growth. During her earlier years, she pursued studies in nursing, reflecting her caring nature and desire to help others. Later in life, she continued expanding her knowledge by studying sociology, demonstrating her lifelong curiosity about people and community. In addition, she served as a notary public, providing trusted service to those around her.
Known for her sincere heart and unwavering faith, Mary lived her beliefs through service, wisdom, and unconditional love for her family. She was a source of strength and encouragement, always reminding those around her of God's grace.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children LaToria K. Byas, Myron Johann Lael Byas, and Andrea Lael Moon (spouse ShaVonne Moon); grandchildren Jakai Byas, Skylah Lael Byas-Moore, and Autumn Lee Byas; great-grandchildren Endre Moon and Edris Moon; nephews Darnell Butler and Dirrell Butler; and a host of other loving family members and dear friends.
Though she is no longer with us, the love, faith, and music she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Closing Scripture
John 14:1-3 (KJV)
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
