We are gathered here today in loving memory of Moses Muthomi Maigaru – Mutha. We come together with heavy hearts to mourn the loss of a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, friend and a cherished member of our family. Today, we acknowledge both the joy that Moses’ life brought to us and the deep pain that his passing has left behind. In sharing our memories, our tears and our gratitude, may we find comfort in knowing that although his earthly journey has ended, the impact of his life will remain with us forever.
BIRTH AND EARLY LIFE
The late Moses Muthomi Maigaru was born at Annex Hospital, Nakuru, on 21st December 1978, to the late Phinehas Maigaru Mugambi and Mrs. Pauline Nyambura Maigaru. He was a brother to Lucy Muthoni, James Mbugua, the late George Muthaura and Joseph Kithinji. Moses grew up in a loving Catholic family and remained a devoted Catholic throughout his life. His faith was an important part of who he was, having been baptised and confirmed in the Catholic Church. EDUCATION Moses began his education at Hekima Nursery School, where he studied from 1982 to 1983. He then joined Flamingo Primary School from 1984 to 1992, successfully completing his KCPE. From 1993 to 1996, he attended Menengai High School, where he was not only committed to his studies but also actively participated in rugby, representing his school. He later joined Kenyatta University, Nairobi, from 1998 to 2002, where he pursued and successfully attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Economics.
CAREER AND WORKING LIFE
Moses began his working life shortly after completing high school, working with Happy Go Limited as a salesperson and technician before joining university. After university, he continued to build his career in different organisations. In 2002, he worked with Wananchi Online as a salesperson and technician. In 2003, he worked with Bidii Dot Com as a technician and later with NairobiNet Online in marketing. From 2004 to 2005, he worked with Kenya Television Network (KTN) in data management and advertising planning. In 2006, he joined Select and Protect Insurance Brokers. He later became involved in the family business, where he continued to contribute his time, skills and energy. In 2012, Moses relocated to the United States of America, settling in Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, where he continued working until his passing.
MOSES THE BROTHER, UNCLE AND FATHER FIGURE
Beyond his education and career, Moses will perhaps be remembered most for the person he was to the people around him. To many of us, he was more than an uncle or a brother. He was a father figure, a mentor and a guide. He had a unique way of influencing the lives of those around him. Sometimes it was through the big decisions in life, and sometimes through the smallest things that, at the time, seemed insignificant but later became treasured memories. These may sound like simple memories, but they tell us something important about Moses: he was present in our lives. He took an interest in us. He cared about who we were becoming and was never afraid to share his opinions, advice and experiences. He had a way of leaving a mark on people.
A LOVING FATHER
Moses was also a father whose greatest legacy will live on through his two daughters, Angel Mugure Mwaniki and Angie Makena Muthomi. To his daughters, Moses was not simply their father; he was their source of love, guidance, protection and memories that they will carry throughout their lives. Although words can never fully express the pain of losing a father, we pray that they will always find comfort in knowing how deeply they were loved. His life will continue through them.
A MAN WITH A KIND HEART
Moses also had a special love for animals and pets. His care and affection for them revealed another side of his personality – a gentle, compassionate and caring man. He could give attention and affection to animals in a way that showed how much kindness he carried within him. These are the little things that make a person memorable. They remind us that Moses was not defined only by his education, his work or his achievements, but by the heart he had and the lives he touched.
HIS FINAL JOURNEY
For some time, Moses had been battling health challenges, including complications related to diabetes and episodes of low blood sugar. During one of his visits home, he also shared with the family that he might require a kidney transplant. Through these challenges, he continued with his life and remained connected to his family and loved ones. On 23rd August 2026, Moses peacefully completed his earthly journey. His passing has left a silence that words cannot easily fill. Moses has left behind memories that will continue to live in this family – memories of his laughter, his advice, his opinions, his humour, his love, his care and the many ways in which he influenced our lives. Today, therefore, we do not say goodbye to everything that Moses was. We say goodbye to his physical presence, while carrying forward his memory, his values and his legacy. Your journey on earth has ended, but your story continues in the lives of those you loved and influenced. Rest peacefully, Mutha. May your soul rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon you.
IN GOD’S HANDS YOU REST; IN OUR HEARTS,
YOU SHALL BE CHERISHED FOREVER.
REST IN PEACE,
MOSES MUTHOMI MAIGARU.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
