Richard J. Fairfax, OFS, 82, of Hampden Township, passed unexpectedly on October 1, 2025. He was the only son of the late Eugene A. and Stella Fairfax.
Richard retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as HR Director for the Human Relations Commission and from IBM, where he held various management positions over 25 years. He also worked for the Department of Labor and Industry for the Pennsylvania Conservation Corps, where he was awarded a Pioneer Award for his innovative service as an educator and trainer. Richard was a graduate of Augustinian Academy and William Penn High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman on the USS WASP.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Thomas More Fraternity of Harrisburg. Richard was a faithful servant to the Lord and devoted husband and father. For decades, he served at St. Margaret Mary's adoration chapel and in prison ministry, mentoring and supporting others. "For it is in giving that we receive."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mario Baylor and Emily Hawkins.
Richard leaves to celebrate his life his devoted wife of 57 years, Meacie Inez (Hughes) Fairfax; daughters, Maria Fairfax, Gena Fairfax-Hudson (Brian), Tonya Fairfax of Harrisburg, and Meacie E. Fairfax (Shüütah Mah) of Burlington, VT; brother, Ernie (Joyce) Baylor; grandchildren, Isaiah, Deja, Justin, Josh, Christian, and Angelo; great-grandson, Jace; and a host of relatives and friends.
Service will be held at his parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg, Friday, October 17, 2025 at noon, with visitation at 11:00 a.m., until time of the service. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
