On June 27, 1982, the world was graced with the unforgettable light that was Shyia, born to Father John and Mother Michelle. From the very beginning, she brought laughter, love, and just the right amount of mischief wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her Grandmother Faye & father John, who surely welcomed her with open arms and probably a laugh at one of her stories.
Shyia was raised in South Philadelphia by her grandmother Barbra surrounded by her family. She attended school in South Philadelphia and West Oak Lane, where she was admired, loved, and known as one of the prettiest girls around. But it was her beauty not her booty that left an impression-it was her intelligence, confidence, charm, and the way she made everyone feel seen and loved.
As a teenager, Shyia shared her love for dance as part of the group Unique Styles, even performing live on Channel 12, showcasing her talent, energy, and fearless spirit.
In 1998, Shyia moved to Williamsport, PA, with her father John and stepmother Toni. Where She continued her education at Williamsport area High School, where she also met her future husband, Kareem, and began building a life full of love, resilience, and unforgettable stories.
Shyia later moved to Harrisburg, PA, where she purchased her first home. While working at Homeland Nursing Home as a Resident Care Specialist, caring for others with the same heart she gave to her family. She brought style, grace, and warmth to everything she did, making a lasting impact on everyone around her. On September 1, 2012, she married Kareem, sharing a love filled with laughter, adventure, and a spirit of realness that defined their life together.
Shyia brought her creativity and passion to life in everything she did. She launched her party planning business, Elevated Events, turning celebrations into unforgettable experiences, and shared her amazing cooking with thousands of delighted customers. She loved to spend time with her children, plan grand parties, travel, make bold gestures of love, and dress with elegance and flair. Thoughtful, generous, and full of heart, she poured herself into every moment, making everyone around her feel cherished, celebrated, and truly special.
To know Shyia was to know someone who truly loved life. She could make you laugh when you wanted to cry, fought her battles with courage and sass, and carried a strength and warmth that inspired everyone around her. She was the kind of woman who would fuss at you one minute and feed you the next-a love that was bold, real, and unforgettable.
Her heart belonged to her children Sky'kirr, Aziyah, Tahir, Kiasia, and Kareem, and her joy overflowed with her grandchildren Zaahir, Zaria, Kamiyah, Mia, Kamdynn, Mai'Kelle, Kayson, Rylynn, and Rylei. Being a mom and "Grandmom" was her pride and greatest joy, and she never held back her love, her laughter, or her vibrant spirit.
She is survived by her husband Kareem, mother Michelle, stepmother Toni, grandmother Barbra, siblings Spanky, Zakiyyah, Jahlil, and Jonise, god-sister Melanie, Aunts, Robin, Dawn, Malissa and Tekesha. Her special cousin Tanajah. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law Dot Johnson, father-in-law Aaron Johnson, brothers-in-law Mike Mike, Jamal, Michael, and Greg, sisters-in-law Shonda, Michelle and Shertia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who truly loved and adored her.
Shyia lived boldly, laughed often, and loved fiercely. She leaves us with memories that will make us smile for years to come, and surely a few stories we might never tell out loud. Her humor, intelligence, thoughtfulness, generosity, and love will live in our hearts forever. Shyia made the best out if her situation and lived by Love, Loyalty and Respect. She will be truly missed and never forgotten.
