Thelma Haigood

Thelma Haigood, age 90, of Harrisburg, PA, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, August 8, 2026. She was the daughter of the late James and Beulah Fleming of Charleston, South Carolina, and born in Harrisburg, on June 16, 1936. She was a devoted wife to the late Bobby Haigood, a loving mother of four daughters from her union with the late Walter E. Grannison, and stepmother to Robin and Wendy Haigood.

Thelma was a graduate of William Penn High School. She retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation with more than 25 years of service in print and cartographic services. Active in the A.M.E. Zion Church, and a member of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society. She was also the Church Mother at New Jerusalem A.M.E. Zion Church.

Thelma was known for her love of family and friends and held them close. She also loved her church family and enjoyed church gatherings. An excellent cook, she always brought her famous potato salad to the party. In her words “I like good food and good people.” Thelma was also very active, enjoying roller skating, camping and motorcycle riding. She and Bobby spent many weekends relaxing at motorcycle rallies and in the camper with family at Knoebel’s Grove. Life was good and God was at the center.

Thelma leaves many behind to cherish her memory. They include her daughters; Debra Totton (Roger), Diana Grannison, Dolores Chandler (Vincent) and Thelma Grannison. She leaves Robin Haigood and Wendy Haigood; her sisters, Dorothy Bond (James) and Ruth Cash; her brother Jerry Fleming; her grandchildren James (Kalethia), and Roger Totton Jr.. Her great grandchildren; Ervin Jones, III, Kataya Jones,Tyler Jones, Sarah Totton and Adam Totton; and a great grandchild, Katai Jones-Pressley.

A service will be held at Hooper Memorial Home on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 3532 Walnut Street, Harrisburg PA. To reflect the love that Mother had for her beloved poodles, Fluffy, Buffy and Gigi, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to The Humane Society of Harrisburg, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
