Towana P. Lewis

Towana, affectionately known as Pat, was born on January 12, 1948, in Pocomoke City, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Gerald and Mary Lewis. Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Pat was the oldest of seven siblings.

After graduating from high school, Pat attended Brooklyn College, where she earned her associate’s degree. The career that chose her was Social Services, where she dedicated her life to helping others for over 50 years. Her most significant contribution was the lasting impact she made on the many lives she touched—truly another way she did God's work.

In 2008, Pat married her beloved husband, Larry Jenkins. They were introduced by a family friend who connected them through a prayer partner group. After two years of speaking on the phone every day, their friendship blossomed into something more. Pat decided to move from Florida to Houston, Texas, to meet the love of her life, and their bond grew into a lifelong commitment.

Pat raised three loving children: Efrem Lewis (and his wife, Linette), Tauriano Lewis (who preceded her in death in August 2024, and his wife, Ayesha), and Michael Sykes. She was a devoted grandmother to ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters: Geraldine Scott-Brown, Constance Lewis, and Bernadette Murry; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her beloved Aunt Phyllis Johnson.

Pat was a loving and caring person who always helped others whenever she could. She loved going to church and praising the Lord. Known as a church diva, she loved a beautiful dress and a matching hat. Pat was fun and outgoing, with an infectious laugh—you always knew when she was in the building. She was loved by her doctors, nurses, and everyone she came into contact with.

She enjoyed traveling, especially with her family, and looked forward to family cruises, cookouts, amusement parks, and, of course, those unforgettable girls’ trips. "What’s done in Vegas stays in Vegas, Baby!"

On April 12, 2025, Pat passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her children and close family. She was 77 years old. Pat will be remembered for her love, laughter, and joy. Her unwavering dedication to her family, her warm smile, and her beautiful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We loved you, but God loved you best.
