Celebrating the Life of King

September 26, 2011 - August 18, 2026

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved King, whose life was tragically taken by gun violence on August 18, 2026, at just 14 years old.

King was a beautiful soul who touched everyone's heart. To know him was to love him. His presence brought joy, laughter, unforgettable moments, and, of course, those famous drools and slobbery laughs that could make anyone smile. He had a way of creating memories without even trying, and his personality was one that could never be replaced.

King was raised and loved fiercely by his mother, RaShaya Bates, who cared for him, raised him, and carried the many responsibilities that came with being his mother. She shared her life with her husband, Raymond Winslow, and together their home was filled with King and his siblings: Khy'Jeir, MaKenzie, Rayonna, his boss/real mom and favorite sibling RaiLynn, and his baby sister RaiGyn.

King was also blessed with an adoptive father, Christopher Raye, who stepped up and lovingly accepted the responsibility of being a father to King alongside RaShaya. King was additionally loved by his birth mother, Brianna Chambers, and his birth siblings Miluv and Dupree Dunbar, Patience Burney, Vic Chambers, and LaDamien Chambers.

King was also deeply loved by his girlfriend, Leslie Gamble, who held a special place in his heart and in his life.

His village extended far beyond his immediate household. King was deeply loved by his aunt and additional mom, Aprile Bates, as well as his aunts Ivonna, Antoinette, and LaQuita, and his uncle Joseph Alvarez. He was also cherished by his grandmothers, Aprile Snow and Frenchie Stevens, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who were blessed to know him.

King was preceded in death by his beloved great-grandmother, Rosemary Betancourt.

There are so many things that will never be the same without King. There will never be a normal Cake and Cousins again without him. The family will never have anyone to annoy us quite as much as King did. And, for sure, we will no longer be receiving those Cash App requests from our broke bestie. The little things that once seemed ordinary are now some of the memories we will treasure the most.

King experienced so many fun moments, adventures, and experiences throughout his short but meaningful life. He created memories that will live forever in the hearts of everyone who knew him. His laughter, his personality, his jokes, his stubbornness, his love, and even the things that drove us crazy will all be missed beyond words.

Fourteen years was far too short, but King made an impact that will last a lifetime.

His life mattered.

His smile mattered.

His laughter mattered.

He mattered.

Today, our hearts are broken because King is no longer physically here with us. But the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever. We will carry him with us at every family gathering, every birthday, every Cake and Cousins moment, every laugh, and every memory that somehow brings a smile through the tears.

Rest peacefully, King.

You were loved beyond measure, and you will be missed beyond words.

To know King was to love King.

And we will love you forever. 👑🕊️
