Tyrone B. Williams

Tyrone Barry Williams was born March 20, 1960, to the late Robert Lee Williams Sr. and Mary Alice Johnson in New York City.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Tyrone Barry Williams announce his passing on, September 22, 2025. He was surrounded by his beloved daughters, Mariah, Jai’lynn, and beloved siblings, sister Jennifer and brother Robert.

June 1970 the family moved to Harrisburg, Pa. from New York City. Tyrone attended OLBS (Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School). Tyrone excelled in athletics. It was at OLBS where he found his love for football. His football jersey, number 23, was retired and was on full display in the trophy case for all to see. Tyrone was also proficient on the basketball court for OLBS and the CYO league. Tyrone was an all-star team for Meals Towing Little league baseball team.

In 1974, Tyrone attended McDevitt High School. This is where the magic began. He was a lettered athlete in football all four years. Tyrone became Bishop McDevitt’s first 1200-yard rusher. This rushing record was untouched for over 20 years! In 1977, he was the CSC offensive player of the year. Football fans from Philadelphia and Baltimore, among other places, attended the games to watch him play. The rivalry at the time, Steelton High and Bishop McDevitt was the game of the year!

After high school graduation in 1978, he received a full scholarship to play in Yuma, Arizona. He became so homesick while in Arizona. To get closer to home, Tyrone earned a full athletic scholarship to Temple University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. Tyrone was also on the airways in Atlantic City as a disc jockey.

Tyrone had a career in helping people. He had a 25-year career for the State of New Jersey’s Division of Youth and Family Services, and The City of Philadelphia as a Social Worker.

He worked and organized healthcare programs at corporations that assisted people from all levels of society to attain quality healthcare.

Tyrone became a proud member of the brotherhood of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in December 2006.
