Yvette Lorraine Washington, 70, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2023 while surrounded by loved ones. Yvette is predeceased by her parents, Lillie and James M. Francis and infant son Jason Christopher.

Born February 25, 1953 in Camden, SC she is the daughter of the late James Marion Francis, Sr. and the late Lillie Mae “Cookie” Francis. A 1970 graduate of Camden High School, Yvette was one of few black students to attend Camden High prior to official integration of local schools.  She recently retired from the Pennsylvania Employees Benefit Trust Fund where she worked for over 30-years, primarily in customer service focused positions.

Yvette was a passionate woman who loved family and savored spending time with her grandchildren.  She was an avid walker, loved gardening, and cherished longtime friendships.  Singing was a deep passion of hers, though she didn’t find her voice until well into adulthood.  Yvette greatly enjoyed her roles as both Choir Director and a soloist at From the Heart Ministries.  Her ministering through song was a blessing to all.

Yvette was a loving mother to three children, Bryant L. Francis of Oakland, CA, Shelby M. Washington of Harrisburg, and Devin A. Washington and fiancé Brittney Logan of Harrisburg.  She is also survived by her husband Carlos N. Washington of Harrisburg, two brothers; James M. Francis Jr. and wife Catherine of Elgin, SC and Warner E. Francis and wife Tamie of Dalmatia, PA, a sister; Allison E. Johnson and husband Jerome of Milwaukee, WI, and three beautiful granddaughters; Saniyah, Sienna, and Sasha, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.
