Betty L. Joppy

January 6, 2021

Obituary

Betty Louise Joppy was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on December 29, 1928 to the late Robert Joppy Sr. and Ella Joppy.

After a brief illness, she peacefully answered the call home to enter eternal life on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family.  She received her formal education in the Susquehanna Township School District and Thompson Institute.

Betty retired from the Holy Spirit Hospital with 25 years of dedicated service and retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board with 10 years of outstanding service.

At an early age, Betty gave her life to Christ at the First Zion Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Betty assisted with numerous fundraising activities, including bus trips, weight rallies and dinners.

She enjoyed reading the Bible, the Daily Word and watching spiritual teachings on TV, particularly when she became unable to attend church.  Her first love was reverence for the Lord and her second love was the unconditional love she had for her family.  Although Betty was a humble and quiet person, she was a devoted caregiver, an exceptional friend and role model for the family and community.   She loved to reminisce about old times with friends and family that were gathered around her.

Her many hobbies included traveling to see family and other sites of interest, gardening and harvesting the various vegetables she grew, cooking and baking, especially her delicious homemade Christmas cookies.

Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Harvey, and Herman Joppy, a sister Carolyn Joppy and a nephew Michael A. Joppy.

She leaves to celebrate her memory: two sisters, Juanita Joppy of Harrisburg and Rochelle Pickett (McKinney) of Harrisburg, NC; three brothers, Robert Jr. and Alphonso Joppy of Harrisburg and James Joppy Sr. of Chaddsford, PA and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.

We selfishly want to keep Betty here with us, but our Heavenly Father did what was best.  She fought the good fight, the race she did run, and now she is at peace, the battle’s been won.
