Mother Inell Lanier was the second of thirteen children born to the late Smith "Plat" Mitchell and Mary Lou Slatan Mitchell in Arlington, Georgia. On November 13, 1954, she married the love of her life, Robert Lee Lanier.  The Lord blessed the union with three children; Lola (married to Allen Diamond), Joann and Bobby (married to Maude Lanier) and Shakeyria Lanier (a granddaughter) reared as a daughter.  She had three children to a previous marriage; Vivian Crumb, Ada Bell Crumb and Lillie Crumb, and one step son, Jerome Higgins, sisters and brothers, Ida Mae Williams, Vettie Ann Marshall, Walter Clarence Michell, Grace L. Durden and Smith Mitchell, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  All of whom are left to cherish her memory.

Mother Lanier loved to read the Bible.  She excelled at becoming a seamstress/tailor (working for others as well as businesses) and impeccable record keeping.  She loved braiding hair until her vision and limited use of her hands prevented her from doing so.  She enjoyed gospel music  and during the earlier years of retirement, traveling, especially to Colorado Springs, Colorado, by van.  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and others.

After working as a clerk for several other state agencies she retired with the State of Pennsylvania, Department of Agriculture.

Mother Lanier was preceded in death not only by her parents but also by siblings;  Ruth Kemp, Lillie White, Curtis Mitchell, Miris Ramsey, Joe Willie Mitchell, Pearlie Mae Stewart and Louise Woodrow.
