Joe Henry Hearn

Joe Henry Hearn was a good-looking man with a magnetic personality & an infectious smile which set the tone for laughs and a good time everywhere he went. Joe was also a hardworking man. His tenacious work ethic, tough exterior, and take no mess mentality, combined with his kind & giving heart, made him a reliable and loyal provider and a fierce protector. He defended his siblings by any means necessary and taught his children how to defend themselves. His acts of kindness ran deep; from baking pies and making Gospel CD’s for family and friends to shoveling the snow for all of the neighbors on his block.

Joe retired from Amtrak and throughout his 71 years he enjoyed boxing, karate, riding his award-winning motorcycle, listening to Blues/Gospel music, baking, shooting pool, playing cards, taking his dogs on long walks, telling jokes, playing pranks on loved ones, eating ice cream as his evening treat, weekly breakfast with his railroad buddies, and ensuring that everyone who encountered him had a good time with lots of laughs and something memorable from their time together. Although he enjoyed many activities, there is nothing he loved more than pruning his flowers and manicuring his lawn, which was a blessing to all who had the pleasure to view it as they passed by.

While doing what he loved, mowing the lawn, Joe sustained an injury he could not recover from. He passed away on May 4th, 2021 at the age of 71.

Joe was preceded in death by his father Joe A. Hearn. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 51 years; children Monica Urrutia, Marcia Urrutia, Roxane Hearn, & Joe W. Hearn; granddaughters Jayneisha Davis, Nevaeh Nicole Hearn, & Shyneice Swanson; his mother Ola Mae Hearn; siblings Mary Robinson, Mary Coley, Jerome Hearn, and Joyce Howard.
