Timothy Dendy

A Celebration of a Giving Heart

Timothy Wayne Dendy, Jr.

So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Colossians 3:12

A courageous dedicated soldier has fallen from the battlefield of life. He fought the good fight, he kept the faith, and he finished the race; now he receives the gift that has been laid before for him.  On September 5, 2021, the almighty God in his infinite wisdom gently closed the book of life on our beloved Timothy Wayne Dendy, Jr. – lovingly referred to as “Timmy” and reclaimed him for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Life began for Timmy in Richmond, VA on September 22, 1984.  He was born to Mr. Timothy Wayne Dendy, Sr., and Ms. Felicia A. Lewis. Timmy was the eldest grandchild of the late Reverend Howard Lewis, Sr., and Nancy Lewis (“Nana”).  His Nana witnessed his strength and resilience at birth and affectionally nicknamed him “David” after the warrior hero in the Bible.

Timmy was a 2001 graduate of the Job Corp, receiving a Degree in Culinary Arts, but his interests were vast.  He was a certified Class A CDL driver.  As a CDL driver, he was able to embrace his love of traveling and fuel his adventurous spirit.  He was currently enrolled in Bronx Community College pursuing a degree in Business Marketing, with aspirations of working for the New York Stock Exchange.  After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2009 and serving honorably for 8 years, Timmy continued to protect and serve others as an armed security guard.  Prior to his passing Timmy was providing security services for the 9/11 Memorial and the U.S. Stock Exchange located in New York City.

Timmy enjoyed many things in life, including spending time with family, watching movies, traveling, and working towards his goals; but most of all he loved the Lord.  Timmy was a loyal and faithful servant of God’s army. He loved the Lord and he loved to read his Bible.  Timmy embraced the teachings of the gospel and sought to live a life that aligned with the teachings of Christ.  The name Timothy means to honor God and our beloved Timothy honored God in his love of others.  Timmy was patient, he was kind, he was not boastful, and he was not self-seeking.  Timmy valued and loved his family unconditionally.  He was a kind, generous, giving heart, who gave freely of his time, his resources, his love, and his knowledge to not just his family and friends but also to strangers in need when they crossed his path.  Timmy always kept one-dollar bills in his pocket to hand out to the homeless.  Timmy was a true gentleman with honorable intentions.  He was a loving son, who was fiercely protective of his mother.  He was a thoughtful big brother, who often checked in on his younger brother to make sure he was “OK”. He was a well-mannered and courteous grandson, who did not find it robbery to call his Nana weekly to simply say “Hello”.  He was a tenderhearted uncle, who loved to binge-watch movies with his nephew.  He was a carefree cousin, who just relished in spending time and making memories with family.  Timmy was a selfless nephew who would often call his aunts and uncles just to check on them, and to remind them how much he loved them.  As we grieve his passing, we know that grief is the price we pay for love; but that love is eternal, and Timmy was truly loved by so many.

Timmy was proceeded in death by his grandfathers, Reverend Howard Lewis Sr., and Mr. Willie “Bill” Dendy; his stepfather Mr. Harold K. Taylor; his uncle Mr. Willie Dendy; and his aunts Mrs. Consuela Watlington and Ms. Francine Dendy.  Timmy leaves a legacy rooted in love, generosity, and compassion to be cherished by his parents Mr. Timothy W. Dendy, Sr., and Ms. Felicia A. Lewis; his brother Mr. Michael W. Dendy (Jennifer); his grandmothers Nancy Lewis and Julia Dendy, his aunts Ms. Dana Lutz and Mrs. Leona Adkins (Rodney); his uncles Mr. Howard Lewis, Jr., and Mr. Terrance Lewis (Sara); along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

Death is not extinguishing the light; it is simply putting out the light because the dawn has come.
