Linda Christine Long Way

Linda Christine Way 53 of 2515 Woodlawn Street, Harrisburg passed peacefully July 18th in Holy Spirit Hospital.

She was a veteran of the US Army and a Federal Government Retiree
She was also a member of the Gospel Fellowship Church.

Linda will be sadly missed by her mother Herron P. Long, sisters Helen D. Scott, Janice A., Debra A. and Jeanette Long. Her brothers Alfred, Harold, Charles, Michael, Ronnie and Anthony Long all of Harrisburg with Marcus Long of Virginia and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held in her church, 1635 North 7th Street at10:30AM Wednesday July 23 with viewing at 9:30AM

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1300 North Second Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102.

Clara W. Walton, 89, passed peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 20008 in Harrisburg Hospital. Ms. Walton retired from the Federal Government, Homestead Air Force Base, as a Seamstress making parachutes. Clara served over 65 years as a Deaconess and Trustee Assistant and a Girl Scout Leader at the Second Baptist Church of Harrisburg. She leaves to mourn her passing her adopted daughter Barbara Graham of DC, two devoted nieces Mattie M. Barber and Peggy Watson-Scott of Harrisburg and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., viewing at 9:00 at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. and burial following at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Suite 200, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.

“When I come to the end of my journey and travel my last weary mile”

Walter J. Crawford, 85, passed peacefully in Harrisburg Hospital on Friday, July 4, 2008. Mr. Crawford retired from the Federal Government, New Cumberland Army Depot as a Forklift Operator and was a United States Army Veteran. He was also a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church and the Golden Years Ministry. Mr. Crawford leaves to celebrate his life and memory his devoted wife, Naomi Crawford of Harrisburg, one daughter Cathi Pinckney and husband Samuel of Pittsburgh, step-son Eric Chatman Sr. and wife Tonya of Harrisburg, a sister Dolores Ellis and husband Henry of Philadelphia, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held in his church, on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. with interment in William Howard Day Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17109. Robert William Johnson

Robert William Johnson, 75, of North 3rd Street, passed peacefully June 29th in Holy Spirit Hospital. He was a retired City employee who loved cooking and building model planes. Robert leaves to mourn his wife Carol, nine children Ronald and, Sharon Elliott and Tanya Boykins, Tonya, Barry, Elaine Johnson Larry and John Croft, also Brian Elvin. Two sisters Joan Primm and Barbara Bryant with a brother Isaiah Jr. Nineteen grand and three great-grandchildren with a host of relatives and friends.
Services will be in the Hooper Memorial Home Inc. Monday July 7th at 11 AM with viewing at 10.

Louise Franklin 68 of North 6th Street passed peacefully June 22 in Harrisburg Hospital. She was a nursing assistant for over 15 years and a member of the Mt Calvary Church of God in Christ. Louise loved old movies and Bible reading. She will be sadly missed by her devoted son Jeffrey Franklin, her sister Maggie Walker, James and Roosevelt Manning her brothers, four grandchildren and one great grandchild with a host of other relatives and friends, Services will be held in her church Friday June 27th at 11AM. Her interment will be at the convenience of the family. Latosha Sheree Grannison, of Susquehanna Township, departed this life on Saturday, June 14, 2008, the result of a tragic automobile accident. She was a graduate of Susquehanna Township High School and attended Harrisburg Area Community College. She was an employee of Cornerstone Administrative Services, Inc. in New Cumberland, PA. Latosha was a devoted mother, daughter, granddaughter and friend. She was loved by all; and all loved her. She leaves behind to mourn, her children, Ervin, Kataya and Tyler Jones; her mother and stepfather, Dolores and Vincent Chandler; her maternal grandparents, Walter E. Grannison (Hawk) and Thelma Haigood; and a host of other family and friends that shared her life. Her life will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2008 at The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 212 North Progress Avenue, Susquehanna Township. Viewing and visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 at the church and funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Paxtang Cemetery. Geneva D. Powell 73 of Crescent Street passed peacefully on Monday June 9, 2008 at Harrisburg Hospital. She retired as a Nursing Technician at Homeland Nursing Home. Geneva loved walking, care giving and gardening. Amongst the many who will mourn her passing will be her children; Zipporah Littleton, Leonard Powell, Debra, Anthony and Jeffery Buckner and Leslie Powell as well as her brother James Mitchell, a host of grand and great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 11AM in the Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. Her final resting place will be in Paxtang Cemetery. Daniel Thomas Johnson, Jr. "DT", of 3025 Ionoff Road, Harrisburg, passed peacefully in the Jewish Nursing Home June 7, 2008.
Daniel was a U.S. Army communication specialist in World War II and retired from the Mechanicsburg Navel Supply Depot. He was a world traveler with a passion for the Opera. He had membership in the Opera Guild in his beloved Metropolitan Opera House.
Missing him but letting him go are his beloved family: sister, Claire M. Johnson; nephews, Wesley and Gregory Johnson; and in-laws, Edythe Johnson and Dr. Alfreda Johnson.
A memorial service will be in his honor at the Hooper Memorial Home, Inc., Thursday, June 12th at 11 a.m.

Henry A. Stevens

Henry A. Stevens, Jr. 88, passed on June 6, 2008, at the Spring Creek Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Rev. Henry A. and Agnes Burress Stevens of Clifton Forge, VA. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Clifton Forge, and attended Storer College, Harper’s Ferry, WV, and Xavier University, New Orleans, LA.. Henry was a self-employed Insulation Contractor, and in retirement served as custodian for the Capital Presbyterian Church in Hbg. He was a proud World War II Veteran and a former member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Steelton. He was friendly to everyone he met and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. In addition to his many friends and relatives, he leaves to mourn, his children Vanessa S. Edwards of Harrisburg, PA, Dr. Jonathan A. Stevens of Englewood, NJ and Michelle Stevens of Haddonfield, NJ; a sister, Agnes Berry of Leesburg, FL. and three grandchildren Aliyah Edwards, Naim Edwards and Jonathan E. Stevens. The family will receive visitors at the Hooper Memorial Home, Sunday, June 15th from 6:00-7:30 PM. His memorial service will be held Monday, June16th at 10:30 AM at the Capital Presbyterian Church. On Tuesday, June 17th at 10:00 AM, Interment will be at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Geneva Mansfield 98 formerly of Kelker Street passed peacefully June 5th in Manor Care Nursing Home. Geneva was the first black nursing assistant in Harrisburg Hospital and charter member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church and its Missionary Society. She was also a member of Unity Temple number 61 IBPOE of W, and the Galliean Fisherman. Geneva leaves to mourn her children Barbara Ann Zanders, George, Geneva, Lowell and Milford Johnson and a host of grand, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Her services will be in her church at Capital and Herr Streets, Tuesday June 10th at 11AM with viewing at 10. Her final resting place will be in William Howard Day Cemetery.

Sharon D. Thompson, 50 of Clayton Ave, Harrisburg Pa transitioned into eternal life on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at her home. She was born in Harrisburg, Pa on October 31, 1957. She retired from the
Defense Distribution Susquehanna Pa, New Cumberland, Pa. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Sharon is survived by, her daughter, Letitia Trollinger of Harrisburg, Pa, her parents, Franklin D. and Mary M. Ervin of Hbg, Pa. a sister, Sally Christine Luster of Harrisburg; 3 brothers, William Bass, of College, Park, Maryland; Franklin D. Ervin, Jr. and Craig Wilson both of Harrisburg. Pa, 3 grandchildren, Quae Jones, Quincy Ervin, and Kwanjae Trollinger, a devoted friend, George Arter III and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Hooper Memorial Funeral Home, Harrisburg, Pa.

Miss me but let me go
Lena Mae Polk 73 of Harrisburg passed May 28 in Harrisburg Hospital. Lena was a retired certified nursing assistant at the Jewish Nursing Home. She is a member of the kitchen committee of Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church and an avid reader, and also enjoyed watching movies. Missing her but letting her go are her mother Maggie Mae Walker, step-children Robert Bowman and Delores Polk - Harvey, siblings Christine Stockton, Yvonne Richard and Milton Walker Jr.; seven step-grand and seven great-grandchildren with a host of relatives and friends. Lena’s services will be held at Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church Tuesday June 3rd at 11AM with viewing at 10. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Ronald M. Lawson 61 of Sweetbrier Drive passed peacefully at home May 25 with his family by his side. Ronnie was a retired driver of 26 years for Yellow Freight and a Vietnam War veteran as well as a member of the Anointed Church of God in Christ. He was President of the Edgemont Community Improvement Association, a Teamster member of Local 771, Trustee of the Buffalo Soldiers motorcycle club, one of the first Black License Brick Masons in the Harrisburg area ,member of the American Radio Relay League, Sgt. Of Arms for the Harrisburg Chapter of the NAACP, lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and member of the Southern Poverty Law Center in addition to being an avid philanthropist.
“Lawman” as he was sometimes known was preceded in death by his parents James and Catherine Elizabeth Lawson, Brother Richard and twins Judy and Janet Lawson. Amongst the many who will mourn his passing will be his wife Louatha Lawson, children Karl Washington, Veronica G. Connor (Jayson), Erika D. Lawson all of Harrisburg; step-children Anita Parham of Maryland, Lucious Parham Jr. of Erie, PA, Darrio Parham of Lancaster,; siblings James Lawson of GA, Stanley Lawson of Harrisburg, Carolyn Mills of Harrisburg and Gary Lawson of Iowa with a host of relatives and friends.
Ronnie’s services will be in the First Spirit Filled Baptist Church Thursday May 29th at 11AM with viewing at 9.His final resting place will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

She retired from the Commonwealth of PA as an Auditor; was a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, she enjoyed all types of music, traveling and the company of family and good friends. Lynneice was preceded in death by her father, Steve Ball, Jr., brothers; Robert Ball and Steve Ball, Jr. III, a sister Stephanie Ball and step-son, Guy Bivins. She leaves to celebrate her life and memory her devoted husband, Harry Bivins, daughter Nadia Bivins, son Royce Bivins, mother Annie L. Ball-Brooks, sisters; Naomi Bigari, Cynthia Ball, Thelma Anderson (Kenneth), Annette Ball (Jessie), brother Odell Ball (Denita Renee) and two grandchildren Jackie and Adrian as well as a host of relatives and friends. George L. Donald 92; passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 in Spring Creek Nursing Center. Mr. Donald retired from the Federal Government working with the Navy and the Air Force with more than 30 years of dedicated service. George was also long time and faithful member of The North 17th Street Church of God, the Men’s Choir and he enjoyed going out for breakfast and had a passion for gardening. “Uncle George” is predeceased by his wife of 68 years Bernice; two daughters, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his sister, Mary Louise Gaston of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held in his church on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m. and interment at William Howard Day Cemetery, Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. is handling Mr. Donald’s arrangements.

Kathryn E. Chivis-Agent 58, fondly known at Kat, passed peacefully at Community General Hospital on Sunday, May 18, 2008. Kat was employed as a Training Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Welfare, for more than 35 years. She was also a member of The Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church and the Red Hatter’s. Kat had a way of bringing folks together, loving them for who they are and allowing their light shine. She leaves to celebrate her life and memory, her devoted husband, Cornelius C. Agent, Jr., two loving daughters, Quianna Agent-Phillips and Alana Agent, step-daughter Adrian Evans, her mother, Mary Chivis, sisters Clara and Angel Chivis, brothers, Howard, Charles and Ronnie Chivis, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held in her church on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., viewing starting at 9:00 a.m. and internment in Rolling Green Cemetery. Virginia Middleton 96; passed peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2008 at Colonial Park Care Center. Virginia was a retiree of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; the oldest member of the Order of Eastern Star Esther Chapter # 1, Heroines of Jericho, Daughter of Isis, and a Deaconess at Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and traveling. She leaves to celebrate her life and memory her devoted daughter Cynthia Williams of Secane, PA, a sister Mary Hyatt of Pittsburgh, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held in her honor at her church on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 10 a.m., viewing at 9:00 a.m. with interment at Paxtang Cemetery, in addition an evening viewing on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. with an Eastern Star Services to follow at 7:00 p.m.


 
 

Robert Lloyd Wright

There is no greater love than the love of those who sacrifice their personal happiness for the benefit of those whom they really love


Robert Lloyd Wright died 7 May, 2008. He was born on 6 January 1940 in Harrisburg, PA. He was fourth in the birth order of the children born to his deceased parents, Ralph and Mathelder T. Wright. He was married to Chellie M. (Durr) Wright in July 1960. Mr. Wright had a total of 35 years of combined Federal Government Service. He retired (early) at the age of 53 from the Staff and Faculty of the US Army War College. He served four years, two months and two days on active duty with the United States Air Force. Mr. Wright was educated while attending Hygenic Elementary school and Steelton high school located in Steelton, PA. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, five daughters—Eileen Wright, Teresa A. Barnes, Shirley A.
Riley, Dana Y. Segal and Judith K. Littleton; four sons-in-law, Reginald Barnes, Sr., Jason Riley, Jeffrey Segal and Jason Littleton; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Wright had four brothers—Ralph Orville (deceased), Alton, Kenneth and Hamilton; nine sisters—Juanita, Evon, Landonia, Maxine (deceased) Lucille, Althea, Inez (deceased), Eleanor and Dianne. In addition, he had a number of aunts,
uncles, nephews and nieces as well as other relatives and friends.
Mr Wright’s viewing will be in the Hooper Memorial Home Inc. Monday May 12, 2008 from 10 to 12 noon. His interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Phillip E. Williams 68; passed peacefully in Harrisburg Hospital on Saturday, May 3 2008. He was predeceased by both his parents Clarence Williams and Lucy Williams Baltimore and a daughter, Allyson Williams. Phillip retired as a Police Officer from the City of Pittsburgh after 20 years of dedicated service; he had memberships with Prince Hall Mason and American Legion Post 736 in Pittsburgh, Ephraim Slaughter American Legion Post 733; Steward of the former Edgemont Fireman’s Club, member of the Edgemont Volunteer Fireman’s Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. He will leave to mourn his passing five daughters, Tanya Akra, Karen Morris-Priester, Sharon Williams, Anita Hall and Phyllis White, a brother, Clarence Williams, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., viewing at 10:00 a.m., and internment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Phillip A Collins, 48 formerly of Harrisburg passed peacefully in New Mexico May 1st, 2008 leaving to mourn his mother Sheila Smith, sister Elayne Price, three siblings Eugene A. Brown Jr., Joseph R. Smith Jr. and Ronald Doug Smith; grand-parent Mary Jones and a host of other relatives and friends in addition to a close companion Edward Marini. Virgen Maria Kershaw 38 of Harrisburg passed suddenly in Community General Hospital on Tuesday April 22, 2008. She was employed as a customer service representative with United Water Co. Virgen loved shopping, cooking, gardening and interior decorating. She leaves to mourn her devoted husbadn Eric, two children Lorenzo Lopez and Kasia Kershaw, her father Confesor Ramos, siblings Confesor Jr., Virginia Perez, Luis Ramos, Cecil, Felicita and Marcelino Perez, mother in law Reverend Varbara Watkins and a host of relatives and friends. Her service will be in the Hooper Memorial hoem Inc. May the first at 11AM.

Bertha Davis 83 of Chestnut Street passed peacefully in Spring Creek Friday April 18th. Bertha was a retired children’s care giver in N.Y.C. and member/deaconess of Harris A.M.E. Church. She loved children and cooking. Bertha leaves to mourn her devoted son LeVern Davis and sister Edna Mae Williams with two grand and two great-grandchildren with a host of relatives and friends. Services will be in her church Wednesday, April 23 at 11AM with viewing at 10. Her interment will be in William Howard Day cemetery. Addie L. Lewis 83 passed peacefully April 4th in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She loved gardening and cooking. Addie leaves to mourn her children Alfred Smith, Geraldine Washington, Marie Brooks, Beverly, Angela, Eugene, Anthony and Leon Lewis Jr., with twelve grand and fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Jacob Esau Gibson 90 passed peacefully at home on Franklin Street in Harrisburg March 26th at 5:10AM surrounded by his family.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Jacob was the devoted husband of Katie Gibson and father to six children Jacob, Dwight, Jeffery, Kenneth, Randall Gibson and Margaret Gibson James. He was also survived by four grand and eight great-grandchildren as well as a host of relatives and friends. Eleanor Hooper McKinney 90, formerly of Harrisburg passed peacefully at home on March 24, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. Eleanor worked in real-estate as a broker and also in public service; she loved playing bridge and traveled extensively around the world. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Walter J. B. Hooper Sr. and Alice Hooper, siblings; Millicent Hooper and Walter J. B. Hooper, Jr. and a son Gregory McKinney. She leaves to mourn her daughter Alice Schulze and husband Klaus (Dutch), grandchildren; Charles (Monica), Alisha, Alexandra, and Amanda, great-grandchildren; Elise, Tyler, Alexis and Aubrey, locally nephews; Lance Ulen, Tony Ulen and Walter J.B. Nehemiah Burrell

Nehemiah Burrell, of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008. He was born October 10, 1933 in Akron, Alabama to the late Josh and Victoria Burrell. Nehemiah lived and worked in Lackawanna and Buffalo, New York at the Bethlehem Steel Mill. He was transferred to the Bethlehem Steel Mill in Pennsylvania where he met and married his devoted wife, Irma Weatherspoon. Nehemiah liked cooking and fishing and enjoyed showering his wife with flowers and gifts. Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Irma W. Burrell; a son, Shannon Burrell of Buffalo, New York; a stepson, Maurice Edwards Sr. of Harrisburg, who was his primary caregiver, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Nehemiah will be missed by his family and friends. Home going services for Nehemiah will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc., Monday, March 24th at 12 Noon, viewing at 11:00 a.m. with internment at Paxtang Cemetery. His Pastor the Ronald E. Franklin of Silver Springs will officiate. Even deeply grieved his wife gives thanks to the Almighty God for their Union.


 
 

Archie Spruill Harris

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose

Archie Spruill Harris was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on January 24, 1928. He was one of four children born to his loving parents, Sterling, Sr. and Eva Harris of Littleton, North Carolina. He answered God's call to eternal rest on Monday, March 17, 2008.

His formal education was received in public schools of Halifax and Warren counties, where he attended McIver and John R. Hawkins High School. After attending St. Augustine College in North Carolina, he went on to serve in the United States Army including a tour in Korea.

After moving with his family to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Archie
was employed by the U.S. Post Office until his retirement.

Archie received many compliments for his "Chef" wizardry, and loved preparing meals for his family. When he wasn’t cooking you could most often find him rooting for his favorite sports team.

He was preceded in death by his adored wife, Alice Harris; his sister, Lalla Mills; and his twin brother, Sterling Harris, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Darwin Harris (Carmen) of Harrisburg, Deborah Johnson (Schenthal) of Woodbridge, VA, Sylvia Carr (M.L.) of Weston, MA, and Rosilyn Harris of Philadelphia; and his devoted sister, Dora Whitsett (Bernard); and a host of beloved grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

A service in his honor will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday, March 21, 2007 at 12 Noon, viewing at 11:00 a.m. with internment at Blue Ridge Memorial Garden.

Carl Benito Bryant

Carl was born on December 12, 1944 to the late Joseph Spurgeon and Annie Bess Bryant in Steelton, PA. The Lord blessed his transition into eternal rest on Monday, March 17, 2008.
Carl lived in Steelton on Mohn Street with his brothers William, who predeceased him, and Ronald; his sisters, Josephine, Eva, Lillie, all of whom also predeceased him, Marie and Gloria “Dodie”.
He graduated from Central Dauphin High School, where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. While skipping practice one day, he met the lady in his life, Doris, who he lovingly called “Jo.” It was love at first sight.
Carl and Doris were married on August 14, 1965 and were blessed with three wonderful children; CarLa, James, and Ila whom he loved with all his heart. He was also blessed with one terrific grand-daughter, Taylor Ashley.
Carl enjoyed spending time with his family, music, cooking, and sports. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 37 years of service.
Carl gave his life to Christ and he joined Greater Zion Baptist Church under the shepardship of Pastor Charles R. Meile, Jr. Until his illness, he attended worship services faithfully; even then he continued to enjoy his personal relationship with Christ.
In addition to his immediate family, Carl will truly be missed by his maternal aunt Agnes Shelley; his sisters-in-law, Betty Bryant, Darcel Lee, La’Tanya George and Kay Colston; his brothers-in-law Edward Arp, Lewis Jones, Ray George, John Lee, Sr. and Charles Colston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sidney A. Dickason Sr., 83, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, March 16, 2008. He was born in Roncevert W. Virginia on June 24, 1924 to the late Sidney A. Dickason and Cleo Haynes Dickason Blakey. Mr. Dickason retired from the Federal Government, working in Public Relations; an Army Veteran of WWII, 761st all Black Tank Battalion Unit serving with Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson under General George S. Patton. He leaves to celebrate his life and memory; his loving wife, Collette Dickason of Harrisburg, two children, Sidney Dickason, Jr. of Harrisburg and Rhonda Dickason Stevenson of Maryland, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Services in his honor will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 in Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. at 12 Noon, viewing at 11:00 a.m. and internment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. He loved and worked at being a Director of Operations for the Central Dauphin Area Basketball Association. He was also head coach for the Central Penn College Women’s Basketball in Enola. He leaves to mourn his beloved mother Eva Medley, children Kimberly, Terrance, Theodore Sr., Harold Jr., Nakeeta and Elizabeth and a host of relatives and friends. Lillian “Mom Mom” Jennings, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
Born March 14, 1921, in Lynchburg Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Maggie M. Marshall. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Robert “Bob” Jennings Jr. and son, Paul Jennings. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Public Welfare. Former member of Bethel, A.M.E. She was a member of the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She attended the Harrisburg School District. She was a licensed beautician. She enjoyed spending time with her family and bowling.
She leaves to share her legacy a beloved son The Honorable Robert Jennings, III and devoted daughter, Jacqueline C. Potts. Grand Children: Robin Potts-Anderson, Pastor Alonzo Potts, III, Amari K. Jennings, Shakira E. Jennings, Ashia J. Jennings and McKenley Philippe, Shelia Jennings, Cecilia Jennings. Great Grandchildren: Darnae Anderson, D’Juan Anderson, Dr. Amy Cammack, Presynce Imani Pressley, Timari Potts, Tanjah Potts, and Kay Lynn Cooper.

Torrance D. Daly 35, fondly known as “2Fee”, passed suddenly on Thursday, March 12, 2008 in Hershey Medical Center. Torrance a loving and giving person graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School; she received her Master’s Degree at the University of Shippensburg and worked as a claims analyst for EDS. Torrance was also a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi, enjoyed sewing and continuing her education and spending time with family and friends. She leaves, to celebrate her life and memory, her loving husband Matthew Daly of Harrisburg, her father Howard D. McGill, sister Neko Thomas (Clifford Sr.), her special aunt Shirley Brown, a niece and nephew Korein and Clifford Thomas Jr. “CJ” all of Harrisburg and a host of relatives and friends. She was also predeceased by her mother, Linda Sue Patterson Watson. He is survived by three brothers: Philip Crosby (Elene) of Stratford, CT; Dr. DeNorris D. Crosby (Lillie) Monroe, CT; and Thomas L. Crosby of Bridgeport, CT, one sister, Eleanor Turner (Lester) of New Haven, CT; two nephews and four nieces. His parents, George and Ada Crosby, two brothers George Jr. and John (J.R.) Crosby and a sister, Thelma Jeter, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. with a viewing at 10 a.m. and interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Gilchrist and two sons, Frank and Gino. Joan leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters, Julie Fleming, Annette Mathis-Artis and Felice Mathis-Mosley, 2 sons, Andre and Dondi Mathis, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters Rella Thompson and Marva Dockens of Harrisburg with nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. That friend was Kenneth B. Jackson 46, who passed December 16th at home with family and friends. He was born in Harrisburg March 14th , 1961, the son of Betty and the late Leroy Jackson Sr. Preceding him in death was his sister Catherine and brother Robert.
Kenneth will be sorrowfully mourned by his mother Betty, children Roland Freeman, Bernell and Kenneth Jackson and Theresa Smith all of Harrisburg. He has six siblings, LeRoy Jr. and Preston of Harrisburg, Edwin of Steelton, Stewart of Camp Hill, Barbara Jackson and Theresa Smith of Harrisburg. He also has three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Kenneth worked as a dietician in the Spring Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. His passion was his grandchildren first following with dancing, art and basketball. Amongst the many others who will miss Kenneth will be his devoted companion Sandra Fluellen.

Lily Marie Fasolak-Thompson of Quakertown passed peacefully at age 33 on Thursday, December 6, 2007 amongst family and friends after a long and diligent illness.

Lily was a devoted mother, a consultant for Longaberger Baskets and a parishioner at the Church of St. Isidore.

She was the wife of Robert E. Thompson III, the mother of two beautiful daughters, Alexis and Olivia Thompson and will also be celebrated and remembered by her parents, Rudolf and Liliana Fasolak, two sisters Tania Baldwin and Natalie Fasolak and a host of relatives and friends.

A Mass will be held at her church on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing starting at 9:00 a.m., 2545 West Pumping Station Road, Quakertown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the Olivia and Alexis Thompson Fund, c/o Wachovia Bank, N.A., 755 S. West End Blvd, Quakertown, PA 18951.

Greene of B'nai B'rith Apartments retired employee of the N.Y. Life Company who loved sewing, reading and traveling passed peacefully in her 90th year November 12th in the Stonebridge Health and Rehab Center leaving to mourn her beloved children William “Sonny” Greene of Marysville and his sister Nancy V. Connor of Indiana, PA. (Predeceased by Thomas Leonard Greene). In addition to her children she leaves eight grand and six great-grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Clayton was a retired Insurance Agent of the United Insurance Co. of America and also worked at the PA Department of Aging. He was a Deacon of the Hillside Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was also a member of the gospel group the Susquehanna Singers who traveled the Eastern United States with their performances. Leaving him but letting him go are his son Clayton Jr. and devoted cousin Jean Williams and a host of other relatives and friends. Miss me but let me go.
Daniel A. Summers, Sr, of Tucson, AZ passed peacefully on October 29, 2007. Born June 9, 1919 to the late Arnold C. and Sina (Cooper) Summers in Harrisburg PA, Daniel was the 7th of 8 children. A 1937 graduate of John Harris High School, he attended Hampton University and later journeyed to Tuskegee, Alabama to become a part of the Tuskegee Airmen program, the first unit of African American airmen. He remained with the program until its completion, becoming part of the newly integrated Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. During his 22 years in the Air Force, he served in three wars, retiring as a SMSgt. in 1966. He went back to college, completing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education at the University of Arizona. He taught 4th, 5th and 6th graders for the next 14 years, followed by an active retirement of traveling and encouraging friends and family. He is now reunited with his wife and partner of 58 years, Ethyel “Pee Wee” Summers. He is survived by sister Edythe S. Johnson of Harrisburg, Pa., daughter Jeanne (Norman) Nash of Nashville, TN, son Daniel A. Summers, Jr. of Tucson, AZ, a daughter adopted in adulthood, Justine Poole, and five grandchildren: Karen Nash James, Mark Nash, Sean and Chris Summers and Nikki Poole. He is further survived by a host of family and friends who will miss his quick wit and generous heart. A memorial service will be held December 15, 2007 at 1:00 PM at South Lawn Mortuary, 5401 S. The life of Eric Danielle Cooper, 32 of Adrian Street ended suddenly October 24th in a senseless act of street violence. Eric was an entrepreneur who loved motorcycles and sports. Wilson passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 9th 2007 at Colonial Park Care Center at the age of 90; she was the daughter of the late Levi and Laura Harrison of Mercersburg and retired from the Harrisburg School District with 27 years of dedicated service. Mary was a member of Capital Presbyterian Church, where she served in the Woman’s Association and as a former Deacon; a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc; and a volunteer for the Arthritis Association. She is celebrated and remembered by her four children: Jeanne M. Wise of Maryland; Carol L. Gadsden of Harrisburg, Deborah W. Gadsden wife of Nathan Lee Gadsden of Lancaster, and John L. Wilson, Jr. also of Maryland; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Ralph was retired from the Mechanicsburg Navel Depot and the Patriot News. He was a member of the American Legion Post 733, New Zion Fellowship Church and a Korean War veteran. He was an avid sports fan, especially his Philadelphia Eagles. Gross and leaves to celebrate her life and memory 4 children; Donna (Gross) Elliott of Maryland, Edward Gross, Anna Marie (Gross) Carter and Joann (Gross) Ramsey all of Harrisburg, 6 siblings; Ida Turner and Dorethea Williams both of Washington DC, Lois Foster of New Jersey, Mary Easton, Eugene Britton and Patricia English all of Harrisburg, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Sadie will be celebrated and remembered at New Day Way of the Cross Church of Christ, 310 Peffer Street on Saturday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be held at Hooper Memorial Home, Inc. on Friday at 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and again at the church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be held on Monday, September 10th at 10:00 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family greatly appreciates your love and support during their time of loss and bereavement
